I could write volumes on the number of bad-slash-inappropriate-slash-downright-startling gifts that I've received over the years. The case of beer from a (very short-term) boyfriend one not so memorable Valentine's Day. The denim overalls - way too big for me, which was irrelevant, because I was never, EVER going to where them anyway - from my mother one birthday. The completely unsexy full-body footy pajamas from my husband that Christmas that his mother stayed with us. The hairnet he shoved in my stocking that same year.
All of those gifts? Trashed. (Except the beer. I drank that.) Well, the hairnet got trashed. The overalls and the pajamas went to Goodwill, I think, in some giant bags filled with other assorted undesirable miscellany. But they might have gone to the landfill, or into the atmosphere to destroy the ozone, had I been upset enough to dramatically throw them in the trash or burn them.
It's for this reason that I consider it to be a public and environmental service that any and all persons purchasing gifts for women like myself give due care and consideration to both the desirability of the gift and the eco-friendliness of the gift - to reduce the chances that the gift will be turfed, and to reduce the impact of the gift upon the environment if it is turfed.
To assist in that service in advance of Mother's Day - and in honor of Earth Week - I have compiled a short list of gifts that are likely to meet that criteria of 'due care and consideration' (I'M TALKING TO YOU, HUSBAND-MAN. READ CAREFULLY):
1) A pair of "recycled" diamond earrings - yes, DIAMONDS - from eco-responsible greenKarat, who works with existing gold and stones instead of mining new ones. Yes, I am that predictable. But you show me a woman who would reject eco-friendly diamonds and I'll show you a woman who has never blubbered over her wheatgrass juice while watching Breakfast at Tiffany's. (Sourced through Cool Mom Picks, available here.)
2) The Masha Bag, which I first saw at the MoMA store. Pretty much anything that is sold at the MoMa store will meet with my approval, but this bag accomplishes that AND is eco-friendly: it's made out of recycled soda caps. (Sourced through WeCovet, available here.)
3) A footrub with super-awesome body oil. Hey, I'm nearly nine months pregnant. The foots, they get sore and swollen. So, you know, a little eco-friendly massage oil and a coupon or twenty for foot rubs and back rubs and whatnot? I'd renew my vows for that. (Sourced through Green Mom Finds)
Obviously, these are all things that I would like - things would wash the sour taste of all those past bad gifts from my mouth but quick. You can make your own list over at GetInHerhead.com - and guarantee that your partner and your family never have an excuse for bad gifts again. And all without the paper-waste of Post-It notes!
Eco-activism never felt so good!

I love it! We guys need those types of lists. Once we know what we can do to make our super ladies happy (provided we can actually do it), we'll figure out a way to deliver.
More lists, please!!

I think I have you beat in receiving bad gifts; for my birthday last year my boyfriend bought me gummy boobs because he decided I am so boob obsessed and it doesn't end there these gummy boobs were so old they had hairy mold on them, next I received a bag of spinach (his reasoning for that is because I was pregnant at the time and liked this salad he made) and cheese cake and not just any cheese cake he bought me walmarts finest.

Indeed they do deserve a treat every now and then, there is no denying in that!
