The Breast Fest Manifesto

It's perfectly legal for women to breastfeed publicly in most of the United States, and throughout Canada. We HAVE the right to breastfeed publicly. So why are we insisting upon Festing the Breast?

Because people like Bill Maher would have us hide...

Because Facebook thinks that pictures of nursing boobs are dirty...

Because waitstaff at Applebees and YMCA attendants still tell nursing mothers to cover up or nurse in the toilet...

Because it's illegal to ask a nursing mother to stop nursing or conceal her nursing, and yet people still do it...

Because we live in a society where nobody bats an eye at see-through tops and pasties on pop stars, but in which nursing breasts are considered by some to be indecent...

Because some people still say things like "breastfeeding is like masturbating - it shouldn't be done in public"...

Because if even one woman - EVEN ONE - is shamed into not nursing because someone said it's indecent, that's one too many.

Because this most important of mothering activities should be celebrated and lauded and praised from the rooftops.

Because it's a superpower, and we need to be proud of it.

Spread the word. Share your voices. Nurse your babies.

i'm live right now :)

I have got my two video's on youtube - and on my blog natural-news.all-natural-mommies.com! :)

Great job ladies. You make me even more proud to be a nursing mother.

My pic is up and the montage. Happy Breast Fest everybody!

My video is now up on my blog.

Hey guys!
This is great! I'm at work, so I can't liveblog a nursing session (and no one wants to see me pump!), but I'm with y'all in spirit!
I've posted the Montage to my blog.

I've got it on my parenting blog: http://ourfamilyvillage.com and on my personal blog: http://wiredfornoise.blogspot.com

As an adoptive mother, I was never able to be a breastfeeding mom, so, alas, no photos I can contribute. But you KNOW I am in total support, and will be posting at my place, as well as the Spin Cycle!

My post is up! http://twoshews.blogspot.com/2007/10/barracuda-baby.html

Thanks again for all of your hard work on this!

I just stumbled across this. How fantastic! I posted a mention in solidarity on my blog.

p.s. i even wore my "superpower" shirt for the occasion. :)

I've got my breast fest entry up!! The montage is running, but my son slept in, so no live nursing yet- I will try to add a video later on. :)

http://rainbabies.wordpress.com/2007/10/10/the-great-virtual-breast-fest/

Thank you, over and over again, ladies!!!

I posted it on my marketing blog, my personal blog and my Facebook page. I also forwarded to a friend who I believe is also going to post today.

Good luck and ignore the trolls. They are the ones who belong in bathrooms with blankets over their heads.

My post is up, babypixie has been feeding all day in solidarity! No pics of us though as my blog is annonymous :)

Good luck!

I've got the Breast Fest montage on my site www.mamaknowsbreast.com

I finally got my video up! Had to link to YouTube from my post, but it's there!

I’ve found out that Facebook recently kicked a woman off of Facebook, because she talked about breastfeeding her baby???

But, Facebook allow criminals, drug dealers & pedophiles to have Facebooks and they don’t delete them, why?

Yet, Facebook picked on this woman, for being the most important and most beautiful thing in the world...a mother.

Pick on the weak and innocent why do you? Thats not America, thats not even Mexico, well Facebook picking on mothers is Anti-American, so you just made an enemy, Capt Wild Bill Kelso.

Brava, bfing ladies!!! This is a wonderful thing you are doing!!

Just to clarify a point, breastfeeding in public is legal in ALL of the U.S. Many states have specific law that clarify the legality of breastfeeding, but even if a state does not have such a clarifying law, breastfeeding in public is still legal.

I just want to make sure women (and men) know this so that no one can argue with you about laws, no matter which state you are in!

My post is up!

Get your nurse on!

my post is up and my breasts - though currently not in use, alas, are all aglow with solidarity.

http://cribchronicles.com/2007/10/10/in-just/

unfortunately the only photo we had is really tame and makes me look a little, erm, certifiable, but it takes all kinds. :)

boobies unite!! (or wait, that's what sports bras are for)

My post is up! I talked about the Breast Fest today -- but here's the post that I'd really like to share. I wrote it the day I realized that I'd breastfed my last son for the last time. Enjoy. http://toddlerplanet.wordpress.com/2007/06/30/i-didnt-know/

No video and a bit late, but my contribution is up! I even added a photo!

http://bluemilk.wordpress.com/2007/10/11/this-breast-is-protesting/

Fabulous effort you grrrls - and all the other participants too.

Hey,
I posted a positively perfect (yet sadly ineffectual) latch just a couple of weeks ago. It's at: http://madhattermommy.blogspot.com/2007/09/wordless-wednesday-little-early-seen.html

Doh! Why don't comments wrap?

http://madhattermommy.blogspot.com/2007/09/
wordless-wednesday-little-early-seen.html

(okay, so I posted this on an earlier post in error...so I'm commenting here, too!)

It's still Wednesday, here, honest! And the montage will be appearing on Quarter Rest momentarily :)

yay - wonderful job ladies! (and men!)

Yipes, I'm sorry I didn't tell you yesterday that I had a new post up. But I am a supporter!!! I've posted about you before and had a button of yours up and was on your other list. I suck at paperwork, even virtual.

http://watchmenowatchme.blogspot.com/2007/10/great-breast-fest-montage.html

I have posted some pictures on my blog...

Hello, I joined in - a little late, though. Thanks for doing this!

http://www.wondermom.org/2007/10/late-to-breast-fest.html

I am late on this but I do support 100% what you are doing here!

Here's a photo from my blog from World Wide Breastfeeding day of my son and I in the park near our apt:

http://putyourflareon.blogs.com/putyourflareon/2007/08/lunch-in-the-pa.html

Would Facebook object to pictures like this one http://www.unc.edu/depts/chaucer/zatta/nursing2.jpg ?

It's a painting of the Holy Mother nursing the Holy Infant. People all over the world pay money to visit musea and churches where that kind of painting is displayed in all its glory.
I'm not a mother but was breast-fed until my mum got a staph infection. I have friends who breast-feed. What is wrong with such a beautiful and natural act ? What is wrong with the miracle of life ?
Go on nursing Mothers. Whenever I see one of you doing what Mother Nature intended you to do I would applaud but it'd wake the tyke.

Ugh. This seems to be neverending! I'm in love with your video and wish that I had been aware before that you were collecting pictures as I have two that are spectacular - "Wyatt the Lactivist" has been on display on my myspace page and on my personal blog for months now.

The video without sound is not nearly as powerful as the one with the song - but it still makes it's point - just not as boldly.

Shame on anyone who feels the need to chastise a breastfeeding mother either publicly or privately. There are just as many moms made to feel uncomfortable feeding their children in the privacy of a home. One day all will be breastfed and it won't be such a hot topic - at least that is what I'm praying for!
